He knows what’s best for you.

When I was younger, I dreamed of bring married. My time was spent binging Say Yes to the Dress and pasting printed pictured of dresses and flowers in a composition book. I loved everything about love and couldn’t wait for my turn. Carrying this desire in my heart, I began trying to turn my dream into reality by my own strength. For years, I clung to an unhealthy relationship; spending money, saying all the “right” things, and giving my body, hoping to secure a ring and a new last name.

Who cared how it happened, as long as I got married.

Well, the Lord cared.

He cares about the journey just as much as the destination and does not want our desires to swallow us up, causing hell along the way. In Psalm 37:4, David tells us that if we take delight in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart.

The Father cares about you and wants to give you what’s best. When you delight yourself in Him your desires will be filtered through Him. This allows the Lord to prune anything that doesn’t align with His good for your life. This also allows Him to give your desires boundaries so that you can live without guilt or remorse. And though it’s hard to relax our grip on controlling the process, the Lord knows what He’s doing. When we give our desires to Him, we submit to His loving sovereignty. He brings peace and grace to what we desire most so that His will comes into full view.

As I’ve grown older, my understanding of the value of trusting the Lord has deepened. His way of bringing my desire for marriage to life has surpassed anything I could have done on my own. The young girl clipping wedding pictures in her bedroom is well satisfied with what the Lord has done.

My prayer for you today is that you begin trusting the Lord with your deepest desires. I pray you lay down the idols you have made and find true delight in the Lord. May you understand that nothing you desire should remove you God’s will and protection. Allow Him to create your reality.

XOXO
